16th Century Merchants House
— Hertfordshire

Following significant structural movement we carried out exploratory works to assess the condition of the timber frame which had been encased in a hard and impermeable cement render.

We were able to understand the reasons behind the failure and come up with solutions.  Significant repair and replacement was required to several areas including the lower portion of the frame and also at jetty level.

Following the repairs, the timber-frame was rendered externally in a lime based mix over riven chestnut laths.

Testimonial

Breakspear Conservation recently carried out extensive repair work on our seventeenth century, grade 2 listed timber-framed house.

There was extensive deterioration to several key areas of the Oak frame. If these defects had not been rectified, in due course the house would probably have collapsed. Louis and his team set themselves the highest professional standards and showed great empathy with old buildings such as ours. I would not have slightest hesitation in recommending them.  I think my wife and I were very lucky to have had them work on our house.
