8 Bay Aisled Barn — Hertfordshire

We carried out major repairs to all aspects of this
grade II listed 114ft long aisled barn located on the Hertfordshire/Essex boarder. The lower portion of the frame had suffered significant decay as a result of raised external ground levels and concrete slab internally.

We replaced 95% of the sole plate timbers and repaired the base of more than 100 studs.  In the 1980’s the barn was re-roofed with corrugated sheets and at this time the majority of the rafters were removed.  We re-instated the missing rafters and kept the character of the undulating roofline, using oak of varying widths in order to soften the appearance.

We liaised with the local authority conservation officer and structural engineers The Morton Partnership throughout the works and our hard work and dedication, brought the repair project to a successful conclusion.
